Bright design inspiration and joyous, heartfelt moments made Kirsten and Colin’s wedding day a celebration as vibrant and unforgettable as their love story.
Both Iowa natives, the couple first met in Des Moines while working as lab techs at Eurofins Scientific. As their love grew, they moved to Nevada, and Colin decided to pop the big question during a spontaneous – and cold – trip to Lake Tahoe. When they were on a pier overlooking the water, Kirsten was quickly ready to head back to the car to warm up. As she started to walk back, Colin said “Can you just wait a minute?!” as he pulled out the ring and asked her to marry him!
When starting to plan their wedding day, the duo envisioned a vibrant, gemstone-inspired color palette with a modern feel. Because they were planning their Iowa celebration from states away, they turned to the ever-talented Alex Jimenez and the team at Wildflower DSM to bring their vision to life. Through thoughtful design guidance and a carefully curated vision board, they created a cohesive celebration that exceeded the couple’s expectations.
“Alex was truly our hero,” Kirsten shares. “He took care of everything we could ask for and more. He made it so simple.”
With their focus on creating a memorable experience for their guests, Kirsten and Colin prioritized the details that mattered most – especially entertainment and connection. Their reception at Noce Jazz & Cabaret in Des Moines featured the incredible DJ DAS. He created an energetic atmosphere where friends and family could celebrate alongside them all night long.
They also turned to Alex for recommendations on other stellar local vendors, including Hello Darlin’ Glam, TandemHart Paperie, and Bridal Connection. Together, the entire team helped bring every element of the day together with ease.
The couple’s favorite moments were the ones filled with personal meaning. They exchanged handwritten vows that remain some of their most treasured memories, while heartfelt speeches from their maid of honor and best man brought tears and laughter.
Their first dance was another unforgettable highlight, featuring a surprise custom voice-over woven into their song. Although they had practiced the dance beforehand, the unexpected addition made the moment even more meaningful.
Looking back, they encourage other couples to embrace the process and focus on what matters most. “Be flexible and have fun,” Kirsten says. “Decide on a couple of things you want to prioritize the most.”
For Kirsten and Colin, that focus meant creating a celebration centered on connection, joy, and unforgettable memories – and they sure pulled it off.
